About the job
Friendly Design Co is seeking a mid-level Graphic Designer to join our team. As a Friendly Designer, you will be responsible for a variety of design and production work including brand, print, social media, and web design projects.


You will be working in a collaborative environment to create logos and brand systems, marketing collateral, social media and digital communication materials, and interfaces for websites. You will contribute to client projects from kickoff and strategy, through design and execution.


Our Designer works closely with our entire design team, including our Creative Director, Brand Design Director, and Designers; as well as with our Developers, operations team, clients, and external partners. You must be able to work independently on multiple projects, but also collaboratively with other Friendly team members.

Friendly’s work primarily involves visual identity design and website design and development. We work with niche and not-for-profit clients who not only believe in doing good work for their communities and audiences, but who also respect our process and people. We are purposeful, practical, and thoughtful while being open, spirited, and fun. We create delightful experiences for our clients and their audiences and design the best possible solution to the challenge at hand.


This position may be filled by a remote applicant in the US or near our HQ in Washington, DC or Omaha, NE.

Roles & Responsibilities

Our ideal candidate:

Can work on and lead entire projects and specific phases of the design process (discovery workshops, moodboard creation, visual design, and working with developers) to create a successful finished product
Collaborates with a close-knit team of designers, developers, and strategists; providing support to colleagues where needed
Communicates directly with clients and vendors, often leading creative processes, presentations, and reviews
Thinks creatively and strategically to solve problems and design concept-driven solutions
Self-manages to complete tasks and meet deadlines on a variety of projects



3-5 years of designing brand, marketing and communications materials, and/or websites in a professional environment.
Strong understanding of the creative process.
Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Understanding and experience with Sketch and Figma.
Engaging portfolio of relevant work samples.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Outstanding commitment, professionalism, leadership, enthusiasm, flexibility, and sense of humor.
Working knowledge of HTML & CSS is preferred.
Comfort with WordPress, Squarespace and modern content management systems.
Experience with InVision, and other prototyping and interactive design tools.
Interest working with non-profits or socially-conscious organizations is preferred.
Bonus: Illustration or animation experience and skills
