About the job
There is only one Data Cloud. Snowflake’s founders started from scratch and designed a data platform built for the cloud that is effective, affordable, and accessible to all data users. But it didn’t stop there. They engineered Snowflake to power the Data Cloud, where thousands of organizations unlock the value of their data with near-unlimited scale, concurrency, and performance. This is our vision: a world with endless insights to tackle the challenges and opportunities of today and reveal the possibilities of tomorrow.

We’re looking for a seasoned designer to own Snowflake’s Design System. The initial focus will be on the UI Design System that underpins our existing and growing product portfolio. A consistent, intentional, high quality Design System is crucial to our goal to enable every organization to be data driven.

Your work will help establish what it means to use a Snowflake UI. At the same time, you’ll drive clarity and efficiency within the organization so that we can deliver high quality products quickly. We’re looking for someone that has spent significant time working on a design system both from a process and an execution standpoint.

As the initial designer on this project you’ll identify opportunity areas, establish processes, work cross functionally, and collaborate with design leadership to scale impact. This role is a high growth role, but expect to get your hands dirty to start. The responsibilities that follow are broad and we expect candidates to have strengths in different areas. If you think you are currently capable of meeting some, but not all, of the responsibilities please consider applying anyway.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Snowflake’s Design System from the design side
Collaborate closely with engineering to build robust, polished components
Define and own the Design System change process
Own the Figma Design System
Document the Design System
Evangelize the Design System
Proactively identify areas for improvements to the Design System
Work with designers on products to ensure they’re leveraging the Design System
Participate in product and design reviews

REQUIREMENTS:
2+ years experience working on design systems at a product-focused company
1+ year working with Figma’s component libraries
Experience working on a product at a product-focused company
Strong communication skills that make your process and proposals understandable and actionable to a diverse set of cross-functional audiences
A strong working knowledge of web technologies
A comprehensive understanding of modern interface design patterns
Strong visual and interaction design fundamentals
An eye towards evolving industry best practices for design systems
The ability to work pragmatically to meet deadlines while leaving room for future iteration
A growth mindset
A drive to create structure and clarity wherever it’s needed
A true passion for creating great user experiences

NICE TO HAVE:
Strong technical chops with web technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS

Snowflake is growing fast, and we’re scaling our team to help enable and accelerate our growth. We are looking for people who share our values, challenge ordinary thinking, and push the pace of innovation while building a future for themselves and Snowflake.
